"NOT FOR ICE CREAM" is how my dad's box of sprinkles was always labeled in the pantry. Toast your favorite white bread (I like something kind of rustic but not too many holes or the sprinkles will fall off), butter it up, and add hagelslag - sprinkles. A staple breakfast in any Dutch household and something I genuinely love and crave. People act like this is a crazy idea, but it's basically the same idea as Nutella on toast or the French afternoon chocolate sandwich except better because it's sprinkles and it's Dutch. I usually choose dark chocolate but there are different options in varying sizes and shapes - milk and white chocolate, anise, fruits in curly, straight, or hail. Not for ice cream. For toast.
