Piercingly emotional Laurie Anderson movie which is kind of just a long poem / essay with video and soundtrack. A reflection on time, grief, attachment, and death through memories of her mother, her husband (Lou Reed), their dog, and a little unexpectedly at first, our post 9/11 surveillance state and collective memory. A profound translation of what it means to love and grieve and make art, which is really what it means to live, and to me what great art ultimately attempts to communicate in varying ways. The Lou Reed song Turning Time Around which plays in the movie also makes me cry. Bring tissues, girl.
